SEAPC Coins for Kids

Children all over the world have needs. It has been said that the average American has 24 cents in spare change every day. That might not seem like much, but it can make a huge difference in the lives of children around the world when it is gathered together and combined with the love of Jesus.

In response to this potential, South East Asia Prayer Center (SEAPC) has established SEAPC Coins for Kids as a way of providing funding for needs around the world. Two fund drives are held each year, during the 6 weeks leading up to Easter and Thanksgiving, but funds are collected all year long. These funds are disbursed to other ministries providing care for children as well as SEAPC partner ministries. Since it was established in 2007, SEAPC Coins for Kids has raised over $196,000! Over the years, these funds have provided:

  • New bunk beds and bathroom renovations for children at Charity Children’s Home in Myanmar
  • Salaries for teachers in the Cambodia Christian School Network
  • Scholarships for youth to attend Nexus Student Ministry retreats in Pennsylvania
  • Vacation Bible School by R.E.A.C.H. at several of the NHO children’s homes in Cambodia
  • Sports equipment for Cambodian schools to start a baseball program
  • Heart procedures for children in Tibet
  • Backpacks and school supplies for inner-city children in Ohio
  • Blankets for children in northern India
  • Renovations of the boys’ dormitory at Charity Children’s Home in Myanmar
  • Lunch for the families of the victims of the Connecticut school shooting

Opportunities to Get Involved

Whether you are an individual or part of a larger group, there are lots of different ways to get involved with SEAPC Coins for Kids! Below are just a few ways to get involved, but we invite you to get creative with how you collect for SEAPC Coins for Kids.

Hold a coin collection drive with your church, school, athletic association, or group
Ask participants to collect their spare change change from couch cushions, pockets, and car cup holders for a set period of time. This is an excellent opportunity to get children and youth involved in impacting kids across the world in a tangible way. Some groups may choose to break off into “teams” and turn it into friendly competition. At the end of the collection period, bring the change to your bank to have it counted by an automatic counting machine, or ask your bank for coin wrappers.

Place a change collection container at your business
Simply place a collection container and an SEAPC Coins for Kids sign by the register or other focal point in your business. Invite customers to place their spare change from purchases in the container. Once the container is filled, bring the change to your bank to have it counted by an automatic counting machine, or ask your bank for coin wrappers.

Ask to hold a coin collection day outside of a retailer
Many retailers will allow you to hold collection days outside of their establishment as long as you provide adequate proof that you are collecting on behalf of a non-profit organization. Contact individual stores (rules and limitations vary by location) to find out what they require, and then get a group of friends together to collect! Our office is here to help with providing proof of our non-profit status.
